Mill Barns Wedding Photography – Sammy & Kris

So this is an odd one for me, as I only had approximately five days to prepare for this wedding. That’s right COVID strikes again. This the wedding of Sammy and Chris at the amazing mill barns wedding photography couldn’t have worked out any better for all of us.

I was contacted on the Friday by a good friend of mine who’s a photographer to let me know the bad news that unfortunately he had contracted COVID and that he would have to be isolating and would not be able to shoot Sammy and Chris’s wedding.

Obviously, the couple were crushed, not ideal in any situation, however, being the Mill Barns recommended supplier and a photographer that knows the venue very well, after a quick brief discussion with Sammy and Chris it was agreed that I would step in and take the booking and I couldn’t have asked for a better couple.

They were a perfect fit for me. I only feel a little bit robbed that I hadn’t had more time to spend with them in the run up to the wedding because they were an absolute blast. And I do love some mill barns wedding photography!

So we’ve five days to prep. There was lots of frantic phone calls between myself and Sammy. There was a zoom call between the three of us. And then the day I arrived and off I went to the mill balance.

Bride and groom

We were blessed with great weather. Although a venue as amazing as the mill barns it doesn’t really matter what the weather is like. It could be howling with rain, and you’ll still have amazing photography.

The day was fun. The day was full of great expressions. It was everything I look for in photography.

It was cheeky, mischievous and full of quality expressions.

Wedding couple

Sammy the bride was the biggest culprit for this during the day. In fact, it’s well known in Sammys friendship and family groups that Sam is known to drop quite the faux pare every now and again. In fact, she’s so well known for it that when she does it, everyone exclaims “Sally strikes again!”

And she definitely did that on the wedding day. There was one example during the wedding ceremony, where she said something very inappropriate, in the middle of the wedding ceremony in front of 80 guests, and then turned towards me with in her hands. Disbelief that she’d said such a thing, to say everyone was laughing is a complete understatement.

But day was fantastic, considering we’d only had the five days for prep and then five days to get to know each other and to understand each other. Although to give Sammy and Chris credit they were quite straightforward to work out.

What was important to them was family. What was important to them was having fun. What was important to them was creating authentic, timeless moments. Obviously, anybody that’s familiar with me and my work knows that that is right up my street.

So as you can see from the photos included in this post, it really wasn’t much of a hardship. After the wedding, after I delivered the wedding gallery to the couple, Sammy was gracious enough to leave me a lovely Google review and this is what she had to say:

“When our original photographer was struck down by Covid-19, Chris at Artisan X came to our rescue (4 days before our wedding)! He didn’t push us into any quick decisions, and urged us to really consider if he was right for us, so we didn’t ‘panic book’. During those few days, we cannot be more grateful for his quick responses and positive attitude; we knew we were in safe hands.

On the day itself, Chris was absolutely fantastic! He burst onto the scene, bringing his passion, creativity, eye for detail, and banter to the bridal party and guests. He worked wonderfully with us all to ensure the day ran seamlessly, calmed a stressed Bride out when it all got a bit much, and was there to capture not only some of the most beautiful parts of the day but also some of the hilarious mishaps that happened along the way! Truly a case of serendipity, we are so pleased and in awe of the teasers photographs that he has sent us showcasing our wedding day; we cannot wait to see the rest!

We could not have asked for any more in a photographer, not only in professionality but also in regards to the amazing vibe Chris brings with him. Chilled, organised, authentic… Fantastic! Thank you so much!
