Wedding Photography Ideas
When it comes to wedding photography ideas I always advise that couples have a serious think about what they want from there wedding photography, not what they think they want, as not all wedding photography ideas work for every couple.
For example, as a Birmingham wedding photographer I work with alot of couples who choose farm barns like The Mill Barns or Foxtail Barns, as that’s what’s readily available for Birmingham wedding photography.
These venues are great for confetti and sparkler photography but you`ve not going to get a high end luxury feel ( some call this editorial ) as you need to create those photos in stately homes or luxury hotels, not rustic farm barns. Equally some couples are loud and brash, and others are more quiet and intimate. I don’t create the same wedding photography for every client, I provide a more bespoke and curated wedding photography approach that’s right for my clients.
Wedding photography ideas should also just be that. Ideas. Work with your creative wedding photographer to develop your own unique version of the idea, don’t just steal someone else’s idea and hope that it looks good on you, as I personally think wedding photography that is tailored to you as a couple with always look better than something that isn’t quite right for you.
That said though here`s some simple wedding photography ideas that most couples should consider, and all are achievable regardless of venue or location.
Firstly I do want to say that my style of wedding photography is very modern, fun and colourful. These are ideas that I like and find interesting, so if your looking for more traditional wedding ideas then this isnt the right spot for you!
So, I always enjoy first look photos with family members or members of the bridal party, as these can be some timeless wedding photography. Usually this is done just before a wedding ceremony, so I’d consider who you would like for these moments.
I`m also a massive fan of photography that has personality, so lets talk confetti photography. Honestly this is one of my fav parts of any wedding day as its just so much fun! I always advise that you buy more confetti than you think you`ll need and make it colourful!
When it comes to family portraits I always recommend that you keep them simple, and be prepared in advance with a photo list for your photographer so they can follow that and make sure that nobody is missed off.
Another great idea is to use coloured smoke bombs or grenades. These can be a very fun way to add excitment and drama into the photography and is a great way to include the bridal party in some very different style of wedding photography.

Wedding Photography Ideas are important. But don’t forget that every unscripted moment counts too.
Wedding Photography Ideas have to be as unique as you as a couple – great wedding photography isn’t a “one size fits all”.
Creative wedding photography has to be as unique as the couple, and whilst Pinterest boards of wedding photography ideas a re a great way to visually communicate with your photographer, I would suggest that you have a conversation with your photography team as too their ideas to best present your personalities. I always recommend that you set some time aside during the day for your wedding portraits particularly as this will give you some time alone on what is going to be a very busy day!
I would also recommend that you give yourself plenty of time to create your photography. Say for example you want to have some photography in a nearby cornfield, if you think it`ll take 10 minutes, double that and give yourself 20 minutes to complete it. Nothing will kill your wedding photography ideas than rushing through the photography.
