Should I plan a elopement wedding? And how do I do it?
Elopement Wedding Photography! How exciting! The travel, adventure, and the pure intimacy of it all!
Not much could be more exciting than a destination wedding outside of the UK, there’s a world full of history and beauty out there, including the locations of some of the greatest love stories of all time.
Castles, beaches, small romantic city streets, old town feels or breath-taking vistas. What is not to love!
Over the years I’ve been lucky enough to shoot a lot of destination weddings (where the couple get married abroad surrounded by family and friends) and wedding elopements (where the couple disappear just the two of them for a more intimate ceremony) I tend to then shoot portraits afterwards.
Both are brilliant fun.
I love travel and I love shooting destination wedding photography, so destination weddings are a natural and perfect fit for me.
So, firstly I`d ask myself…. what is important to you? If its lots of guests ( and a big cross section of ages, and family and friends ) then I’m sorry to say that a destination wedding may not be right for you. But f you looking for something more intimate with like minded people then you should definitely look at booking a destination wedding!
Firstly I`d say check out locations (here`s a handy guide to some of my fav`s here) and then I’d definitely advise approaching either the staff or wedding coordinators on site ( like the Sandals resorts that I`ve shot at alot ) or an independent wedding booker.
I can one hundred percent recommend Nadia at Amulet Events, I`ve worked with her in the past and she is great. She`ll take a lot of the hard work out of the planning for you!
In terms of weather I’d go for Spring or Autumn so its not too hot and you can make the most of those nights! I`d say try to fly out a few days before the wedding so you can check everything and try to get the guests out a few days earlier too, as you don’t want to be running to the airport on the actual day to pick people up!
And a special little thing that I think is awesome…book a venue with a pool!! Wedding pool parties are OUTRAGEOUS!
