Maris & Stu – Liverpool Shankley
So, I travelled up north to the wonderful city of Liverpool for Maris & Stu’s wedding at the amazing Shankly Hotel, and we were blessed with some knock out weather on the day – considering it was early March the sun just blazed down.
Stu had family in Liverpool, and despite spending his teenage years in America, he moved back and started dating Marie after she was in Liverpool visiting her family.
Marie had met me at a local “Save The date” and we clicked after she’d seen my wedding books and portfolio, so two years later it was time to go and rock her wedding!
The couple were after some really creative Wedding Photography for their big day and loved my documentary style wedding photography, so I really pushed myself to deliver.
The couples two children played a huge part in the wedding, despite the couple’s little girl falling fast asleep during the ceremony. But I guess grandma is as good a place to fall asleep as anywhere!
As I mentioned we were blessed with some amazing weather during their day, and after the ceremony on the ground floor, we up to the sixth floor where the hotel has a huge open air space for the drinks reception. Its such a great location to work in, and it offered some amazing views of the city. What an amazing backdrop for the portraits.
The couple were very at ease during the session, laughing and joking and when it came to their portraits, it was super easy as the couple didn’t want to do anything too posed.
I was able to convince to try a few dynamic images to compliment the more candid portraits and thankfully they ended up loving them!
The Shankly Hotel really was a fantastic “city centre” venue, and it was really nice to get away from my usual shooting locations ie farm barns or manor houses, not that there’s anything wrong with them. Sometime a change is as good as a rest!
The couple wrapped up with an amazing Ska band to dance the night away, and it was awesome!
