Bourton Hall Wedding Photography
Now this was a wedding I was really looking forward to as Lucy had met me at the Birmingham national wedding show and loved my relaxed and candid style and so booked me for her and Pete’s big day. The venue was Bourton Hall, and it’s a lovely venue between Coventry and Birmingham, and I love winter wedding photography and so I was excited to capture their day seeing as I work mostly as a Coventry wedding photographer, and a Birmingham wedding photographer. This seemed to be the best of both worlds for me. I was going to be a Bourton Hall wedding photographer.
Upon arrival, the day was just glorious, considering it was November wedding temperatures were around 14 degrees. And the sun was beaming down. Blue skies and sunshine everywhere.
I ran up to the little cottage at the top of the drive to start some groom prep with Pete and he was opening cards from Lucy with his father-in-law, and there was plenty of beer and banter going around. The couples lovely dog Tilly, who had previously shot on their pre wedding shoot with me wasn’t with them, but it was well looked after at a doggy daycare centre and from the photos Pete showed me seem to be having a whale of a time.
Bridal prep with Lucy was just giggles, giggles and giggles That girl has a smile that will light up a room and genuinely some of the nicest bridal party I’ve ever worked with. They were just lush. I did a first look photo with Lucy and her father, and it was lovely. He cried, Lucy cried, bridesmaids cried, mum cried, there’s a lot of crying going on.
Bourton Hall has a lovely chapel where the couple got married, with a beautiful quality of light and it really does add an epic feel to the wedding. After the ceremony we were straight out for my customary brash confetti photo. We did some quick family portraits and then it was into the drink’s reception.
Then we made the most of the sunshine with some portraits of the couple outside as well as using some smoke bombs that they bought for use with bridal party.
The food at Bourton Hall is amazing so everyone thoroughly enjoyed the three-course meal supplied by the couple and we were into the speeches. Pete’s parents were not able to make the wedding, so the best man read out a speech from Pete’s father which is quite emotional.
After that, it was outside for a sparkler tunnel full of energy fire and smiles. These are always quite frantic and sometimes chaotic and difficult to organise. But the results always speak for themselves.
And then we were inside for the first dance. Bourton Hall have a lovely tradition where they do the first dance in the lobby with the guests moving up the stairs onto the third floor and then dropping confetti onto the couple.
I took this idea to the extreme by providing some confetti cannons and extras extra confetti and the photography we created as become some of my favorite from the year so far.
All in all, this was just an absolute joy of a day. I genuinely enjoyed it. I didn’t expect the weather and be the intensity from a November wedding. But boy did it deliver some great winter wedding photography.
