Best Wedding Photography – 2022, a year in review

2022 was a fun year great for photography and the Best Wedding Photography, as I was able to really stretch my legs as we came out of the pandemic of 2020 and the restrictions of 2021. My unposed wedding photography really was popular in 2022.

I was able to complete 56 separate wedding shoots in 2022, making it my busiest year to date – 2022 really was a combination of COVID postponements and new bookings, and they collided beautifully with old clients and new clients alike.

I was lucky enough to work abroad three times with the education company Way Up North and I even had the opportunity to speak to 200 photographers in Vienna and offer them my insight and business advice – this was a huge thing for me and I genuinely really enjoyed it and it’s something that I’m looking forward to exploring in the years to come.

2022 saw me launch and maintain my YouTube channel which in and of itself is a steep learning curve, I also branched out into making my own music videos from my own group, and I’ve enjoyed the narrative and storytelling process of this.

But really 2022 saw me do what I usually do, which is solid documentary wedding photography – my wedding clients book me because they want something different something unique and something beautiful – they don’t want anything posed or stiff or sterile they don’t want anything cliche or cringy and that’s absolutely fine with me, as I don’t want to deliver anything like that to them myself. I feel this year that I’ve really pushed the colourful nature of my photography, making sure that every wedding I’m getting the best out of the confetti photos, the group portraits and the sparkler photos if we’re doing them at night.

It was so nice to be able to actually mingle with people and see them at wedding fairs, as I was able to complete two very successful Birmingham NEC shows with the national wedding show. These are great opportunities for me to see people face to face show them my portfolio and explain exactly how I work. It really is easy for me to identify the clients that are correct for me or direct clients that aren’t right for me to the right photographer – some clients feel that they want a more posed editorial approach or they want things set up a lot more, that’s not a problem it’s just not me and it’s certainly not something that I enjoy doing. My work is candid, documentary and fun – it’s a true reflection of the day and that’s what I’ve managed to do with all of my clients this year.

On a boring geeky point I’ve also expanded my range of lenses and cameras this year, really acquiring new kit doesn’t make one a better photographer but I must say I do enjoy having a variety of different lenses to play with as each one gives me different look, and handles light differently and gives my clients wedding photography a completely different feel. It’s not uncommon for me to have that three cameras on me at any one time, particularly during the wedding ceremonies.

All in all, a great year!!
