Confetti – A Midlands Wedding Photographer’s Guide!
Confetti – A guide to creating some amazing wedding photography moments from Midlands Wedding Photographer!
To me these really are cornerstones of any amazing wedding, they create the kind of timeless wedding imagery that I am known for – and its one of the most requested “must have” photos that I am asked to create.
So, here we go – here`s my guide!
As a Birmingham wedding photographer, I am fortunate that I work at some brilliant venues across the Midlands Like Swancar Farm, so this brings me to my first point – location, location, location!
Much like the TV show of the same name its all about space! After all we`re not going to be creating these photos trapped into a disappointing space!
Some venues like Swallows nest farm Barns has perfect photo spots that are just made for confetti photos – be sure to use them!!
So, plan, speak to your wedding suppliers about where to do it, which will bring it to my second point – how and when?
For me, the when is obvious for the confetti shot – as soon as possible!
Post ceremony everybody will be in high spirits and I love to bring these emotions into the photography, so I usually discuss this with my couples and include into the timeline of the day.
I usually arrange that guests have handfuls of confetti (ALWAYS buy biodegradable multi colour confetti, please do not cheap out on this!) or make your own ( handy guide here ) and ask my couples to walk between the guests! This is great as it gives you loads of opportunity to interact with people as they cover you with the confetti!
TOP TIP: Dear guests, always THROW UP, NOT AT! The images look so much more natural when you are not getting smashed win the face with confetti at close range!
TOP TIP: couples, always buy twice as much confetti as you think you`ll need! We can always find other fun uses for it!
TOP TIP: keep your heads up, smile away and take your time as we walk the confetti tunnel, this`ll be a much more of an enjoyable experience for you! Trust me.
TOP TIP: Get some baskets or buckets for the ushers or wedding party to use to share the confetti with your guests from. It also takes care of any rubbish rom the packets etc being left around.
Its always great to capture the end of these types of set ups as well, as guests will always act up at the end, and dump lots of confetti on you, each other or generally just let the little kids play with it!
All of these things are great for the kind of reportage and edgy wedding photography I love creating!
