Wedding Photography Themes

Wedding photography themes should be important to you as it can direct a photographer and allow the relationship between the client which is you guys and the photographer which is me to grow as we have clearly defined expectations. Now when I say wedding photography themes I’m not just talking about colour themes or pastel or autumnal colour`s what I’m actually talking about is creative visions such as Halloween theme science fiction theme comic book theme as you can probably understand from these 3 short themes, the best wedding photography themes are when there based upon a couple’s interests and hobbies.

Now there are some short and quick ways that you can do this adding a little twist on to the wedding photography theme idea, by having interesting favours or table decorations if you’re choosing to have a wedding sit down meal, and can be a very discreet way to do it, for example a previous couple of mine who are really into action figures and toys actually filled the tables with their favourite action figures and toys.

But on the other end of the spectrum I’ve actually shot weddings on Halloween ( like this wedding here ) where the couple actually employed a face painter to arrive and actually face paint the staff into zombies which made for fantastic and fun photography.

Yes I do understand that Halloween is a very obvious wedding photography theme but it does work well and the reason for that is I think the idea and the theme lends itself visually. It’s very easy to come up with ideas based upon that theme and I think this is where it wins is probably my favourite wedding theme.

I’ve actually photographed weddings that were themed on Disney movies ( you can actually get married at Disney here ) where the couple actually dressed up as beauty and the beast which was crazy again this theme worked for me as it lends itself to visual ideas. People often ask me what kind of theme I’d like to see at a wedding and honestly you know what I really like to see in an evening reception would be a murder mystery style theme where actors actually arrive and take the guests on a short murder mystery theme that is sure to keep people interested and entertained.

So when it comes to wedding photography themes my advice is to think about what it is you’re into as a couple your hobbies and interests but also what is going to translate visually into good photography but also things that are going to give your wedding a sense of direction and purpose. One theme I definitely do not advise you to is anything reality TV themed such as love island I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of here or keeping up with the Kardashians as personally I find that aesthetic really annoying.
